How long does it take for you to notice when your phone is missing? If you are a millennial, you will most likely check your phone about 150 times a day. That’s around once every 10 minutes. That means we are almost instantly aware when it goes missing. Most of us will feel the urge to immediately go and search for it.
I wish we as Christians would develop the same sense for the times where we lose Jesus out of sight. You know, the times life gets busy and you don’t pray as much, skip your devotional times, lose focus on spiritual things. Jesus knows that happens to Christians from time to time. However He predicted a pandemic loss of connection with Him in the end of earth’s history. “Behold, I stand at the door and knock” (Revelation 3:20). Christians without Christ. How absurd is that?
This is why we are called to “Seek the Lord while He may be found” (Isaiah 55:6). Not “later”. Not tomorrow. Not when “I will have more time”. The best time is now!
The trouble is, as Christians we look good on the outside. We know much, we do good, we preach and teach. Very much like the twelve disciples during the time of their training. But something is missing. And that something is the key for everything. Just take a look at the first church. The reason for their power was the Holy Spirit. “Unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God” (John 3:3). We desperately need Jesus to fully come in and live with us, “that He may abide with [us] forever” (John 14:16).
And there is hope for us!
“The only hope for the Laodiceans is a clear view of their standing before God, a knowledge of the nature of their disease.” (Testimonies for the Church vol 4, p. 87).
When we understand our condition as a people of God, we will rush to seek Him, learn to abide with Him and finally “love Him because He first loved us.”
If you, being young or young at heart, are seeking to refresh your faith, increase your love and learn to share your passion for Jesus, come join us at the GYC Europe conference in Portugal this July. It is a time to let go of everything and focus. You will be inspired and trained, encouraged and challenged. Give all for Jesus. He did for you.
"To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne.” Revelation 3:21
Grace be with you,
