Onward – Forward – Upward – Never Backward.
To have a vision means to be able to plan for the future with imagination, wisdom and organisation. The outcome of such, would allow the beholder to form a mental image of what the future will look like. Without God we can only see into the present and hope for the future. With God we see the present and the future and can know with certainty what will be. As Isaac Newton once said:
“If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of giants.”
GYC Europe stands on the shoulders of a Giant. His words we read daily in the Bible and His goings forth have been from everlasting, The Lord God.
Our vision is to continue encouraging youth all over Europe to uphold the distinctive message of the Seventh-day Adventist Church; to aspire to excellence in all aspects of their lives – academic, professional, and spiritual; to embrace the call to radical discipleship, including a life of missionary service; and to be supportive and respectful of denominational leadership while remaining a youth-led movement.
We will accomplish this through three areas:
- Active Missions
- Local Rallies
Youth will be encouraged to be a living witness for Jesus wherever they are. They will be networked with others who are on the same pathway to heaven. This will allow everyone to remain focused knowing that they are not alone.
Mission opportunities will be presented as we continue to work with other ‘mission’ focused ministries, opening doors of experience to those who are called to the mission field.
GYC Europe will host several local rallies every year across Europe. These will spiritually uplift those who attend to see the need to firstly, have a personal relationship with Christ and secondly, share God’s message in context with the three angels message to all in their sphere of influence.
The rallies will also serve to network all who attend with each other, creating stronger fellowship in their local areas.
GYC started in 2002 and since then has grown, with attendees making their way to the conferences held in USA every year. With many attending the conference from Europe, the desire was awakened to have our own GYC Europe conference. The first took place in Austria Linz in 2012 and was followed with another in 2014. Huge blessings were gained in both years.
We will continue to host the GYC Europe conferences as a sister organisation of GYC in the U.S. With a Bible based program and opportunities to practically experience sharing the Gospel, these conferences will continue to inspire those who attend from all over Europe. Keeping the focus on a Christ-like life whilst upholding an attitude of ‘active mission’ wherever they are.
Onward will be our call to action and forward to all of Europe our goal. A vision can only be fulfilled if we have direction. God has always called many but few have frequently been chosen. Adhering to our post of duty determines our outcome. Onward we will continue to go and forward will be our marching orders.
A few weeks ago I determined to start running, after my first week I ran two miles non-stop in just under 17 minutes. I felt ecstatic that I actually ran two miles without stopping. The following week, I did the same, however the timings and the experience were different. Two miles, just over 20 minutes, a few stops but more beneficial. What made the difference? The first run was mainly downhill and required less effort; the second run, mainly uphill and required more effort. The challenge was different but a huge lesson was learned. At times we want to resort to the easy options to accomplish the end goal however a saying I keep for myself is, “the easy option is not always the best option”. The best option as we march forward is, to aim upward in our walk. Jesus said:
“And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me” – John 12:32
As Jesus is lifted up and we follow Him, our march will always be onward, forward and upward.
Never backward shall we turn, we are to keep our focus on Jesus and our duty in His field. Going backward is not an option, though always a choice. To fall backward hints, at the whispering voice of failure, that it just wasn’t possible. I share this powerful quote with you:
“Not once should we even think of failure. We are to co-operate with One who knows no failure.” – Christ Object Lessons p. 363
We will accomplish this walk together. Onward, forward, upward but never backward. A man by the name of J R. Miller tells of an old Christian Missionary society that had a seal with an image of an ox standing between an alter and a plough. Under the seal was the motto “Ready for Either”. Meaning ready for sacrifice or ready service. I pray we will have this attitude, an attitude to serve or die in service as we march onward, forward, upward and never backward.

“Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.” – Revelation 14:6 – 7, 12.
“With such an army of workers as our youth, rightly trained, might furnish, how soon the message of a crucified, risen, and soon-coming Saviour might be carried to the whole world!” – Education, 271
God bless you.
